Deeper than Hair

Deeper than hair is a single edition photograph as a part of my project titled CRWN which highlights Black hair care practices as a site of Black Joy. Deeper than hair symbolizes that the histories of our hair run Deeper than surface level beauty standards. We are not defined by our past but we look back knowing that our ancestors passed down beautiful traditions. Traditions that we have carried on to this day. Learning to appreciate our natural texture has been a long journey but so many tools exist today that allow us the space to learn to better appreciate our natural selves Materials: Micro fiber hair towel, afro pick, head wrap, on scanning bed.
