Mondrian

In the 1940s, Dutch artist Piet Mondrian left London to live in New York City. He was inspired by the music of African Americans to create the works Broadway Boogie Woogie and New York City. I was inspired to pull from his inspiration to create a group of images entitled Mondrian. These images represent the African American aesthetic along with my abstract thinking of the lines and colors of Piet Mondrian.

The SmileZ Family

The SmileZ family series depicts the joy in the life of African Americans. Pushing back against the way we are portrayed in much of today's media. While in art school I studied the concept of habitus by Pierre Bourdieu. These images stand against the many negative tropes, associated with the African American people.

Let's talk about equal pay for equal work, as it pertains to African American women.

May we be led by the spirit, as we move and breathe in a way that embraces the needs of others.

During the pandemic, I wanted to create some content that was uplifting. Creatives have the power to literally change the way people think. It's inspiring when individuals have a childlike joy while walking through the challenges of everyday life. Life is music. Music is life. Let's keep the music playing.
