Chuck D- Fight The Power

This is part of my Voice/New York Academy of Art NFT residency collection. The theme is Justice and Equity. When the theme was announced, Chuck D immediately popped into my head as someone I would love to do a digital portrait of because of his tireless efforts in that area. His music, from his time in the seminal rap group Public Enemy (with his partner Flavor Flav) until the present has continually addressed these issues both from an historical and most powerfully, from a current issue standpoint. As far as the style goes, I consciously tried to create an '80's vibe by combining hand drawn and Digital graphics with bright colors and distorted imagery. I felt this would both speak to the time when he came up as a performer, and the current era of NFTs and digital art.
