Simple Fare

Sardines are widely considered a "poor man's meal", but historically they are also a symbol of abundance, charity, and good fortune. I wanted this piece to address the ever-shifting concept of "wealth", and the ease with which it can fall away. The marble and toile de Jouy background are reminiscent of materials popular in the French court during the late 18th century. Part of my collection for the Voice x NYAA residency program.
