About the piece

“Equity means treating survivors of abuse as your equal, not feeling any pity for them. They deserve respect, not pity. Equity means sitting with those who are HIV+ positive and not being afraid to hug them or allow them into our spaces. Justice means judging one’s character, not the color of their skin.” Sadié Exotic In her book „If Only My Eyes Could Speak“ Sadié writes about the struggles of growing up in a broken home as a young black girl. The book represents the mistreatment and misinterpretation of adolescents who are forced to grow in toxic environments. It contains personal poems and letters that speak on the behalf of sexual abuse, abandonment, miscarriage at a young age, and sexual conquests. The still image of this piece has been published as Photo of the Day on Photo Vogue and been reposted by Alessia Glaviano (Head of Global Vogue.)
