About the piece

As if it were an underground language, the land of Mayate is based on the ancestral soil of the Chiapaneca prehispanic culture, a territory where certain practices and customs of colonial extract mixed with the indigenous practices of rituals and festivities, which sometimes brings to the surface an ethnic complexity that is often not talked about it, which the chronicler Bernal Díaz del Castillo, upon arrival with the Spanish conquerors, in his “Historia Verdadera de la Conquista de la Nueva España” recounts finding traces of sodomy and idolatry practices. Territory where more fluid openings of living sexuality and crossing gender manifest in its carnivals and parties permeate; what happens for a population that assimilates between the lines, other non-hegemonic ways of coexistence.
