Graceful Revolt

This piece features a pose frequently used in my work of a female figure with her back turned to the viewer. My way of paying homage to the legacy of “Handala” the famous political cartoon by the late cartoonist Naji Al Ali that was deemed as the national symbol for the Palestinian people and struggle. ‘Graceful Revolt’ is a female living in diaspora. Similar to Handala, she gives her back to the world in disappointment and despair at its silence. Awaiting the world to wake up, she holds on to her gown, a symbol for determination and commitment to a dream until it’s realized. The dream of liberation and return to the land of abundance and fertility both physically and spiritually. She still awaits.. A graphite, Indian ink & gold leaf painting animated.
