NYAA x Voice Resident: Brian Fencl earned an MFA in Drawing from the New York Academy of Art and his BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design. He is a Professor of Art at West Liberty University in West Virginia, USA NYAA x Voice Collection Description – Poor diet is the largest cause of mortality in the U.S. My collection uses pop culture icons to explore the fragility of society, how we get our food and the role of advertising in culture. These pop surrealist figures have been at the heart of my creative work for over 25 years. By starting each image with an ink drawing I keep the touch, imprecision and beauty of mark making that is unique to me. The chaos and concepts in my work is enhanced by the use of digital tools.
