Born in Liverpool, I completed a foundation course in art at Liverpool School of Art - 1982-83, before moving to London to take a degree in Art at Camberwell School of Art - 1983-86. After leaving college I worked as a freelance designer/illustrator from 1986-89 and then formed a design company in the West End of London, firstly in Soho and eventually on Oxford Street which ran successfully for over 12 years, whilst continuing to paint and exhibit. In 2001 I moved to Lincolnshire to create my own studio Johnston1, raise a family and adopt a dog. I have continued to exhibit widely , sell work to public and private clients and recently produce work by commission.
