I am a representational artist. The images in my paintings develop from philosophical inquiries that I am wrestling with. Social interactions, lyrics to a song, or characters and scenes in a movie are the impetus for these inquiries. My international background, being a native of Brazil and the Netherlands, helps me fit in almost anywhere, and at the same time, nowhere. Similarly, the subjects in my paintings are often comfortable and uneasy – simultaneously in their element and contorted. In that sense, my artwork is cathartic. The only parameters I set for myself are to be authentic. The resulting image is often perceived as humor, which is fine by me.
